OCA EXPUNGEMENT CLINIC & JOB FAIR — TUESDAY JANUARY 14TH
Groundworks Industries is proud to co-sponsor the Oregon Cannabis Association’s upcoming Expungement Clinic & Job Fair with the NuLeaf Project. Presented by the OCA and Metropolitan Public Defenders, the event will include pro bono legal services to help determine eligibility for expungement, eligibility for fines to be waived, and real next steps towards a fresh start.
As a sponsor, GW is helping pay for background check fees so that attendees can evaluate eligibility with the volunteer lawyers on site. The GW Talent Acquisition Team will be at the job fair accepting applications and resumes for open positions across retail brands like Serra and Electric Lettuce, plus production opportunities at Prūf Cultivar.
Chief Compliance Officer of Groundworks, Geoff Sugerman, has been invested in criminal justice reform for decades, and was among the vocal proponents who helped get SB 420 and SB 975 passed in the recent legislative session. Together, the bills streamlined the state of Oregon’s expungement process, also allowing for sentences to be reduced if the activity you are convicted of is now considered a lesser crime than when convicted.
Sugerman helped successfully pass the original Oregon Medical Marijuana Act in 1998 as the campaign’s director, and that same year helped defeat a legislative effort to recriminalize possession of small amounts of cannabis. He’s contributed to the laws that established the first regulated brick-and-mortar dispensaries, and he served as an OCA lobbyist to reform prohibitive legislation and advocate for laws that truly understand the challenges of cultivators and medical patients.
While cannabis legalization has transformed state economies, social stigmas, and medical research, there is still much work to be done righting the wrongs committed during cannabis prohibition. Sugerman’s attention to everyone who is affected by cannabis, pre- and post- legalization, is integral to Groundworks’ philosophy and approach to transforming the industry for the better.
